U.S. Congressman. After graduating from Otterbein University Ohio, in 1874, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1878 and commenced to practice law in Columbus, Ohio. Returning to Pennsylvania, in 1882, he engaged in the manufacture of coke, organized the First National Bank of Scottdale, in 1889, organized the Scottdale Savings & Trust Company in 1901 and served as president of both financial companies. In 1913, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-third and Sixty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1917. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his former business pursuits until his death.
