Son of Elihu Phinney and Nancy Whiting Tiffany.

From FAG contributor Kathryn hill;

"THE MEN PROMINENT IN BUILDING UP COOPERSTOWN during the last half century, as their names recur to us at this time ... HENRY FRED. PHINNEY perhaps did more than any other man of his means of that period to build up and improve the village, spending a large amount in opening new avenues and erecting a number of residences. He at one time owned and at a large cost improved the Cooper House hotel, and was one of the first and most liberal supporters of the Thanksgiving Hospital." ["The Freeman's Journal" (Cooperstown, NY), Feb. 15, 1900, Page 3]
