PHINNEY perhaps did more than any other man of his means of that period to build up and improve the village, spending a large amount in opening new avenues and erecting a number of residences. He at one time owned and at a large cost improved the Cooper House hotel, and was one of the first and most liberal supporters of the Thanksgiving Hospital."
