George is the first of thirteen children born to George Henry Burraston Harris and Victoria Josephine Sandgren. His younger sibling and Geneva, Cyrus, Ida, Alvin, Annie, Lillian, Shorland, Nina, Effie, Lydia, Edna, and Norma.
George grew up in Salem, Idaho where his father was a rancher. George served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served from February 1907 through January 1909 in the Eastern States Mission. By 1910 George was working for the elevator. By 1920 he was working as a bookkeeper, a job he seemed to do the most the rest of his life.
On November 15, 1922, in Pocatello, George married Olive Harriet Dudley. They became parents to two sons: George and Joseph. Sadly, Olive died six months after Joseph was born.
In 1930, the two boys were living with family and George was by himself in Bingham Canyon, Utah again working as a bookkeeper. In 1940 George and his two teenage sons were living with George's parents in Rexburg, Idaho. George was farming.
On August 8, 1947 George married Hannah Gardner. She preceded him in death in 1962.
