Obituary from The Post-Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - Thursday, August 16, 1979:
Royal John Garn, 73, Idaho Falls, died in his home Wednesday morning of a heart attack during his sleep.
He was born October 6, 1905 at Teton City, the son of Royal and Elsie Eames Garn. His early schooling was at Teton City and he graduated from Sugar-Salem High School and from Ricks College. He served a mission for the LDS Church in Mexico.

On June 22, 1928 he married Maude Garner at the LDS Salt Lake City Temple. They made their home in Sugar City, where Mr. Garn worked for Midland Grain Elevators. They then moved to Rexburg, where he was associated with J.C. Penney Co.
They moved to Idaho Falls in 1938 where Mr. Garn was in management for Montgomery Ward Co. for 27 years. During this time the Garns lived in many cities in the Northwest. They returned to Idaho Falls in 1956 and he became sales representative for Capp Homes Co. in 1963.
He was a member of the LDS Church and was an elder, served on the building committee for the construction of the LDS 18th Ward Chapel. He was a teacher in Gospel Doctrine class in Sunday School. He was a member of Idaho Falls Elks Lodge for 25 years.

Survivors include his widow of Idaho Falls; one son, Larry R. Garn of Idaho Falls; one daughter, Sharon Lee Cox of Spokane, Washington; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey Garn of Sugar City and Burke Garn of Toppenish, Washington; three sisters, Irene Parkinson of Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Cleo (Neda) Anderson, and Mrs. LaMoyne (Dell) Harris, both of Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wood Chapel of the Pines with Bishop Larry V. Staker of the Idaho Falls LDS 35th Ward officiating. Interment will be in Sugar City Cemetery.
