Herman L. Strickland, Jr., 92, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at his home in Spanaway, WA. He was born on October 18, 1921 in Edgecombe County, N.C. to Herman L. and Mary M. (Liverman) Strickland, Sr., the second of eleven children. He joined the US Army in 1940 and served for 29 years. He served in WWII, the Korean War and the War in Vietnam. He retired in 1969 achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. After the military, he was employed by Intercity Transit until he retired in 1986. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty years, Cora A. (Blevins) Strickland. He is survived by his children; Herman III, Richard, Mary, Virginia, and Michael. In addition he was survived by twelve grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at South Sound Manor, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, WA at 11:30 a.m., March 13, 2014. Burial and Military Honor will follow at Masonic Memorial Park.
