Clifford J. Rettle, 35, of 4814a West Main street, died in St. Elizabeth's Hospital at 8:30 o'clock this morning after an illness of a week.
Rettle, a coal miner at the New National Mine, was born in Belleville on May 14, 1902, and was a son of Frank and Lena Rettle, nee Worms. His father, a native of Belleville, preceded him in death, but his mother, a native of Mascoutah, survives and lives on North Sixtieth street.
He married Otilia Schaefer in Edwardsville on July 2, 1923. They had no children. Besides his wife and his mother, he leaves three brothers and a sister:

He was a member of Local No. 4, Progressive Miners of America, and Local No. 459, International Hot Carriers, Building and Common Laborers Union.
Funeral will be held at 8:20 a.m. Thursday from the Pete Gaerdner Funeral Home to St. Henry's Catholic Church at 9 a.m., with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Rev. Joseph Ehmann, pastor of the church will officiate.
