Gwendolyn O. Pittman, 95, of Kankakee, died Thursday (May 28, 1998) at her home, following an extended illness.

Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens.

She was born Jan. 15, 1903 in Akin, the daughter of Uel and Della Boatright Fox.

Her husband, Raymond Pittman, whom she married Feb. 28, 1921 in West Frankfort, died in 1970.

Mrs. Pittman retired as manager of Aldens Beauty Salon. She also worked at the Fair Store Beauty Shop and taught cosmetology. She was a graduate of West Frankfort High School and Summers School of Beauty Culture. She was organizer and charter member of Bethel Baptist Church, Business and Professional Women's Club, County Chairwomann of Republican Party in Franklin County. She was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed reading.

Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Schneider of Kankakee; three grandchildren, Lolly Ward and Sally and Michael Oline, all of Kankakee, and Robert Schneider of McClean, Va.; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, the Rev. Gerald Fox of Kankakee, Rev. Bill Fox of West Frankfort; and one sister, Isolde York of West Frankfort.

Deceased are three brothers and two sisters.
