Sir John Knightly, lord of the manors of Knightly and Cowley in the parish of Gnosall. He was an accomplished lawyer who had served as deputy justiciar of Chester and North Wales from 1398 until 1404 or later.
Sir John married Elizabeth, daughter of Adam Burgh and granddaughter and heir of William Burgh of Burgh Hall in Gnosall.
They were the parents of:
