Maj. Horace Aladin Bertrand,Jr. USMC Ret., 83, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Quinn Hospice Center, Kenansville, NC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Infant of Prague Catholic Church. Father Ernest Ruede will be officiating and the burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. Mr. Bertrand was born in Morgan City, LA and was the son of the late Horace and Mary LaBeouf Bertrand. He is also preceded in death by a son, Darrell Bertrand, one brother and one sister. He served his country honorably with the United States Marine Corps and retired with the rank of Major. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Sims Bertrand of the home; one son, Michael Bertrand and his wife, Diane of Jacksonville, NC; two grandchildren, Sean Bertrand and Nicole Gonzalez and her husband, Jaime; four great-grandchildren, Andy and Rebecca Gonzalez, Aaron and Noah Bertrand. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 16, 2014 from 5:00 till 7:00 pm at Jones Funeral Home with the Rosary at 6:00 PM.
