George S. Barnes of Ferndale, WA, age 83, passed away at a Bellingham care facility on August 8, 2008. He was born April 30, 1925, in Bellingham, WA, to Jesse A. and Gladys (Scarlett) Barnes. George had a life filled with diversity; he had a Bellingham Herald paper route when he was a boy, cashiered at a bank, worked for Pacific American Fisheries, farmed for 36 years, operated a carpet store, sold real estate and insurance, worked for a cable company in the Olympia area, and he took the Dale Carnegie course to improve himself. Deeply patriotic, he considered that his greatest achievement was serving his country in the US Air Force during World War II. His hobbies included reading, gardening and tending his orchard, and listening to jazz and blues music. George is survived by Gloria, his wife of 60 years, and children, Jeff Barnes, Vicki Wagner, Jess Barnes, and Vivian Barnes.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Greenacres Chapel, 5700 Northwest Drive, Ferndale, with full military honors to follow.
