My mother, Marguerite Harriet Stillwell Couch’ first name is after her father’s sister, Marguerite Stillwell. John and Elizabeth Popplewell Stillwell were tailors. They made dress uniforms for both the North and South during the Civil War, which ended in 1865. At the time of the Civil War, John and Elizabeth Popplewell Stillwell lived in Kentucky, which was a neutral state during the war.
