Vincent F. Iannuzzelli, age 83, passed away Friday, February 28 at Sentara Williamsburg Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret ("Marge") Kamprath Iannuzzelli, to whom he was married for 53 years; three daughters, Staci M. Modena and her husband, Michael, of Gordonsville, Lisa J. Iannuzzelli of Williamsburg, and Victoria J. Carrigan, and her husband, Craig, of Summit, NJ. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Henry Carrigan, Elizabeth Iannuzzelli and Audrey Carrigan, niece, Theresa Iannuzzelli Mitola, and nephews Mark Iannuzzelli and Daniel Iannuzzelli. His brother, Lawrence J. Iannuzzelli, predeceased him in April 2012.
The son of Daniel and Carmela Iannuzzelli, he was born in Santomena, Italy. As a foreign-born American, he pursued the American dream growing up in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he attended St. Peter's Preparatory School and began working at Hench's Deli from the age of 11 until he graduated from college. His later successes in the military and in business can directly be attributed to his strong work ethic and dedication to his family. Upon graduating from St. Peter's College, he enrolled in the Marine Officer Candidate program and became a commissioned officer in December 1952. He was assigned to active duty in Korea and Japan, where he served for two years. After 23 years of Active and Reserve service, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1991. As his family and friends can attest, the discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines remained with him for the rest of his life.
Upon leaving active service, he embarked on a successful career in the health care industry, retiring in 1992 as the Group Vice President and Managing Director of Meadox Medicals. Together with his wife, he raised his family in Tewksbury Township, NJ, and moved to Williamsburg in 2000, which was very fitting as it was where he and Marge spent their honeymoon in 1960. Continuing his passion for service, he spent many hours volunteering with the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Capital and Jamestown Island. His proudest achievements in life were his family and his military service, and for that, we salute him. Semper Fidelis (Always faithful), Dad.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, March 9, from 5-7pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 10 at 11am, at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd., Quantico, VA.
