Henry William Leydig, the son of Anna Maria Jane Miller Leydig and Jonathan Leydig, was born Nov, 4, 1869, at Campos corner, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
He received his education in Pennsylvania, graduating from the Speicher Normal at Berlin Pa.
He taught school for several years after his graduation and prior to his moving to rock falls, Ill.
On November 20, 1895, he was united in marriage to Anna M Phelps of Rock Falls, Ill., who died in 1905 there were no children born of this union.
Mr. Leydig moved to Dixon in 1893, was united in marriage with Bessie Hoofstitler of Sterling on October 9, 1909. To this union two children were born Ruth Elizabeth Leydig and Lawrence Louis Leydig. Mr. Leydig engaged in various occupations in Dixon including the manufacturing of caskets and burnt wood boxes. For the past eight years he had a represented the Progress Manufacturing company of Arthur, Illinois as their salesmen in northern Illinois, Wisconsin, and surrounding states. He had been accompanied by his son, Lawrence, as assistant salesman, for the past seven years. For many years he had been a licensed real estate broker and had an office in the Worsley building for the past two and one-half years.
As a very devout Christian he united with the Methodist Church of Dixon over thirty years ago and was an active member to his death, serving as a member of the official Board of his church for many years.
Mr. Leydig is survived by his widow: son, daughter; three sisters Mrs. Flora McWilliams of Dixon, and Mrs. George Sturtz and Mrs. Frank Brooks of Amboy; three brothers,Louis Leydig of Dixon, Irvin Leydig of Amboy, and Milton Leydig of Helena Montana.
Naturally of an optimistic disposition, his presence in any group contributed to a happy atmosphere and countless friends unite with the family and mourning his passing. The funeral services were held today at the Methodist Church. His body lay in state there from 12 noon until 2:00 PM. The services, over which Dr. Floyd L. Blewfield decided, commenced at 2 o'clock in the main auditorium of the church. The body was taken to rock Falls where it was interred in the family lot.
