William Henry Cunningham Sr. enlisted in the Army in New Orleans on October 28th 1916. He arrived in France on Jun 14, 1917. He fought in the Battle of Lorraine on October 20, 1917. On February 15, 1918 he fought in the Battle of St. Micheal. On May 28th of 1918 he fought in the battle of Cantigny, which was a famous battle. On Jun 9, 1918 he was gassed at the Battle of Cantigny. July 18th, 1918 he received a machine gun wound in his left leg, where he later received a medal of honor for bravery. February 14, 1919 he returned to the United States. On June 4, 1919 he was honorably discharged from the Army.
