Franklin Riley "Doc" Artz , age 76, of Hegins, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 at his home.

He was born on Thursday, July 29, 1937, in Hegins, PA, a son of Hannah L (Smeltz) and Harry R. Artz.

He was a 1955 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School and a 1960 graduate of Kutztown University.

He was a School Teacher for 36 years at Tri-Valley High School.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was also a member of the F&AM Valley Lodge 797, Valley View, Harrisburg Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Millersburg Forrest, PSEAR, the Pike Twp Sportsmen's Association and the Pike Twp Sportsmen's Relief Association, both of Oley. Doc enjoyed baseball, bicycling, woodworking, spending time with his grandchildren and spending time at his sons cabin in Slate Run.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon E and Harold L Artz.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Ann (Falck) Artz, to whom he was married for 48 years.

He is also survived by daughter - Sheri Bobko and her husband John and their daughter Madelyn of Herndon, VA; 2 sons - Eric Artz and his wife Katie and their daughters Chloe and Sophie of Medina, WA and Garrett Artz and his wife Evelyn and their children Luke, Nathan and Grace of Asheville, NC and two nieces Virginia Artz and Carol Teal of DE.
