She retired from the U.S. Army, Micom, with more than 20 years as a civil servant. Her husband, Forrest E. "Gene" Suns, and son, Steve Suns, preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nenna and David B. Hamer of Huntsville; daughter-in-law, Cheri McMurtrey of Florence; brother, Tommy Manning of Madison; two sisters, Margaret Johnson of Madison, and Martha Stickel of Killen; three grandsons, Chris Hamer of Athens, Steve Suns and Nick Suns of Florence; one granddaughter, Staci Ottaway of Huntsville; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
