U.S. Congressman. After graduating from Cheshire Academy in 1863, he traveled in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Returning to New Haven, Connecticut, he engaged in the manufacture of silver-plated ware and brass. Entering politics, he served as a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives in 1877. In 1883, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth U.S. Congresses, serving until 1887. Not a candidate for reelection, he continued his former business interests until his death.
