Viola Elizabeth Wagner, age 90 of Hereford died March 17th 2014 at 11:35 p.m.

Family will be receiving guest at 5:30 p.m. on Friday March 21st at the Funeral home with a Prayer Vigil following at 6:30 p.m. in the Funeral home chapel located at 411 E.6th St.

A Mass of Christian Burial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Sat, March 22, 2014, at St Anthony's Catholic Church with the Reverend Anthony Neusch officiating as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wagner was born February 2, 1924 in Slaton, Texas to Leo and Ann Catherine (Blume) Gabel. In 1946 and after helping raise her 10 siblings, she left the Texas Panhandle to work at a hospital in Washington DC, but return to marry Lester Wagner in 1948 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Amarillo. To many sweet, young, ladies she was a mentor and leader in 4H and served many years as a Cub Scout Den Mother to many rowdy young boys. She was chosen KPAN Radio, "Mother of the Year in 1991". She was the perfect and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Viola had many friends and was active and a member of St Anthony's Catholic Church.

Viola was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Wagner, her parents, brothers Vernon, John and Jim Gabel and sisters Birdie Mae Frazier, Dorothy Pivarinus, and Leona Sexton.

She is survived by her husband Lester Wagner of 66 years; One son, David Wagner and wife Julia of Hereford. Two daughters, Mary Kay Peters and husband Frank of Amarillo and JoAnn Bryan and husband Randy of Pueblo West, Colorado, 18 Grandkids and 35 Great grandkids with another one due any day. She is also survived by sisters Betty Dudek of Amarillo and Evelyn Risner of Joshua. Two brothers, Don Gabel of Happy and Dick Gabel of Amarillo.

Memorials may be made to St Anthony's Endowment Fund or Hereford Senior Citizens Association.
