Sarah C. Sherman, widow of the late Isaac H. Sherman, died at her home in East Belfast Sunday morning, April 15th.
She was born in Winterport, Nov. 12, 1833, the
daughter of the late Lemuel and Harriet Clark.
Mrs. Sherman was a woman of sterling worth. Quiet and unassuming in her temperament, she yet endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact.
She was for many years a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church and her life was one of helpfulness and devotion to duty. It was a benediction to look into her sunny face, bright with the light of
Christian hope and faith.
She leaves one daughter, Miss Flora Miller Sherman; four sisters, Mrs. E. A. Fisher, who is travelling abroad : Mrs. Helen N. Packard of Portland, Oregon,
Mrs. A. M. Morrison of Portland and Mrs. E. M. Cate of Beachmont, Mass., and one brother, Leonard Clark of Winterport. Elmer A. Sherman of this city, whose
home was with Mr. and Mrs. Sherman after the death of his parents, occupied the place of a son in the family and regarded them with filial devotion. The pleasant
memories of a loving mother and sister will ever abide as a benediction with the bereaved, and her memory will be revered by a large circle of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Sherman had been in failing health for two years. Alarming symptoms set in about two months ago, and after great suffering she passed away to be with the
Christ she loved and served so faithfully.
The funeral services were held at her
home, Tuesday afternoon, attended by her
former pastor and devoted friend, Rev. G.
E. Edgett, assisted by her pastor, Rev. J.W. Hatch and Rev. G. G. Winslow.
The high regard which the community had for this beautiful Christian woman was indicated by the large attendance at the funeral services and the floral tributes, which were many and beautiful.
