Linda Jeanne Kessler, 74, of Yountville, passed away on Jan. 30, 2013. Linda was born on July 1, 1938, to Vera Anise Vaught Kessler and Stanley Truman Smokie Kessler. Her sister, Truellen, was born in 1942. Stanley enlisted in the Navy in World War II in 1944 and the family moved to Oklahoma.

After Stanley returned from the war, the family lived in several towns in Colorado and Nevada, until settling in Moses Lake, Wash. Linda Jeanne completed grades eight through 12 in Moses Lake. She loved to write, play softball and proudly competed on the womens tennis team.

Lindas father, Stanley, died at the age of 39, not long after Linda graduated high school. While working as medical secretary in San Jose, Linda met her first husband, Gilbert Gomes (1931-1987). Denise was born in 1961, followed by David in 1964, and Stephanie in 1967. The family lived in Almaden Valley, Calif., which would later become known as Silicon Valley.

Linda and Gilbert divorced in 1971, and Linda worked as a medical secretary. Linda loved nature. She and her kids spent many Sundays on the beach in Santa Cruz and many vacations camping in California.

Linda married Douglas Shaw in 1979, and they briefly lived in Los Gatos before moving to Santa Cruz, where she lived until 1995.

Between 1995 and 2001, Linda, now divorced, lived in Tennessee and then Utah, while Stephanie worked for the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. Linda moved back to California and found her final home in Yountville, where she formed a deep bond with her community and her church. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, her children, her grandchildren and her beloved dogs.

Throughout Lindas life, Linda loved to garden and she loved her dogs especially Kessie, Toto, Shema, Oscar and Missy. In Yountville, Linda cultivated a lovely garden, and with a special devotion, she fed hundreds of hummingbirds and songbirds daily. Not only did she touch the lives of many people, but also countless animals. She will be deeply missed.

Linda is survived by her children, Denise Gomes Herman, David Gomes and Stephanie Gomes Pearsall; her sons-in-law, Dennis Herman and Anthony Pearsall; her beloved granddaughters, Abigael Herman, Elyssa Herman and Valerie Herman; and her sister, Truellen Kessler Miles.
