U.S. Congressman. He attended Trinity College Iowa, graduated from the University of Notre Dame Indiana, in 1925 and was on the faculty of University of Portland Oregon, (1926-27). Returning to Iowa, he was a business executive and a member of the Iowa State Senate, (1933-37). In 1937, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fifth Congress and to the two succeeding Congresses, serving until he resigned in 1942, to enter Military service during World War II. He was commissioned as Major in the U.S. Army, Air Corps and died of a heart attack while on active duty in England. The U.S. Liberty Ship Vincent Harrington, was named in his honor.
