George W. Acheson, 1314 Twentieth avenue, a constable in Moline for sixteen years, died suddenly in his home at 7:15 this morning from a heart attack caused by shoveling snow. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Acheson arose this morning at his usual time and then shoveled the snow from the sidewalks in front of his residence and also in the yard. It was one of the heaviest snows in several years.

After completing the task he went immediately upstairs. Ten minutes later he was found in an unconscious condition by his wife. A physician was called but Mr. Acheson died a few minutes after the doctors arrival. The physician said a heart attack, brought on by overexertion from snow shoveling, caused his death.

Mr. Acheson was born in Magnolia, Wis., on Dec. 7, 1866. He came to Moline early in 1915 and during the war worked for a time in the root and VanDervoort factory in East Moline.

Later he operated a grocery store at fifth avenue and Twenty-second street for eleven years, retiring seven years ago. Mr. Acheson was a member of Moline lodge of Elks.

Mr. Acheson was a candidate for the office of constable on the republican ticket, being nominated for that position at the recent Moline township convention.

He married Stella May Austin in Albany, Wis., on Sept. 26, 1885. Surviving are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Brown of Moline and Mrs. Everett Birthrong of Birmingham, Mich; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Charles Gibson of Evansville, Wis, and three brothers, William Acheson of Minneapolis, Minn. Robert Acheson of Avalon, Wis., and Edward Acheson of Janesville, Wis.

The body was removed to Knox funeral home, pending funeral arrangements.
