Obituary from the 4 June 1937 Baudette Region:

Auto Accident Fatal To Popular Baudette Boy

George Giber Died Monday of Injuries Received in Auto Accident Saturday Night

George Giber, popular Baudette boy, died in the Warroad hospital Monday from injuries received about midnight Saturday when his auto crashed into a steel bridge about a mile this side of Carp. George and a party of other young people were on their way to a dance at Carp, and nearing the bridge the auto in which George was the driver skidded and collided with the bridge. George was taken unconscious from the car, and Edwin Olson brought him to Baudette. He was rushed to the Warroad hospital, where it was found that he had sustained several broken ribs, one of which had pierced a lung. He was also severely crushed, and one arm was broken. There was no hope held out for his recovery from the start, and he gradually weakened until death came about 36 hours later.

Miss Rose Olson of Baudette, a passenger in the auto, received a cracked shoulder blade and a cut in the back, while Miss Crystal Zimmerman of Spooner had a cut on one of her knees. The other three passengers in the auto were shaken up but not injured.

George's death has caused profound sorrow in the community. He was a fine, steady young man, popular with all who knew him, and he had a large circle of friends. He has been working for Bertyl Hanson at the oil station for some time.

Funeral This Morning

Funeral services were held this morning at the Catholic Church, with Rev. Father Stumps celebrating Mass and delivering a splendid tribute to a popular and respected young man. There were many floral tributes and many Mass cards were also received. Interment was in the Catholic section of Elmpark Cemetery.

George, who was twenty-two years of age, was born in Baudette and lived all his life here. He was a graduate of the local high school. He is survived by his parents, a brother, Joseph [sic -- Peter John], and his sister, Nellie. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the family in their bereavement.
