Born "Wasul Drobot," William was from the village of Dobronouta, a village north of Cernauti in Bucovina (today Chernivtsi in Ukraine). He came to Canada in 1906, then crossed the border and settled in Baudette, Minnesota, where he married during the 1920s a fellow immigrant from Bucovina named Ecaterina (Gabor) Crusnitchi, divorced ex-wife of Stefan Crusnitchi.

William Drobot

A heart attack took the life of William Drobot, pioneer resident of Baudette, yesterday shortly after he was taken ill. He was taken to the hospital but died a few minutes later.

He was 69 (sic -- 68) years of age, having been born in Rumania in 1888. He came to Baudette when 17 years of age and for many years was employed by the Canadian National on the section. He retired from this work four years ago. He is survived by the following children: Nellie Giber and Pete Giber. A brother, Mike Drobot, lives in Fort Frances and another brother in the old country.

Definite time for the funeral has not been set but tentative arrangements are that it will be held at Sacred Heart church Friday morning at 10 o'clock with Father Clemen officiating.

The Obituary of William Drobot

Wm Drobot was born in Rumania on February 8, 1888, and died in Baudette May 21, 1957. Death was caused by a heart attack.

He arrived in the U.S. and came to Baudette to make his home at the age of 17, and lived here the rest of his life. He was employed by the CNR as trackman until his retirement four years ago. Since retirement he gained much pleasure from his hobby of gardening and was unusually successful to the extent that his gardens were the object of great admiration. Many friends will sincerly (sic) miss his friendly advice and gifts of garden plants and produce.

Mr. Drobot was a member of the Catholic church, from which services were held on May 27, with Rev. George Clemen officiating at the funeral Mass. Interment was at Elmpark cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Krusnitski, Louis Grevtakis, W. H. Campbell, R. R. Keam, John Shevenko, and Don Thompson.

Survivors are Nellie Giber of Baudette, and Pete Giber of Downey, Calif.

Out-of-town relatives and friends who were present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Pete Giber and George, Nancy, Patsy, and Billy of Downey, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Mike Drobot, Mrs. Lena Dustak, Mrs. Norman Martin of Fort Frances, Ont., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Taschak (?) and Michael, and Mrs. Norman Wagner of International Fall, and Tom Yurchak of LaVallie, Ont., and Mr. and Mrs. Matt Franko.
