James "Jim" Elmer Hammons Jr., 71, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jim spent his final days surrounded by family and friends who provided so much love and support throughout Jim's journey to heaven. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Leonard Chapel, 800 W. 5th St., Fort Worth, 76102. Jim was born in Baltimore, Md., on June 28, 1942, and was in the first graduating class from Eastern Hills High School. He went on to obtain his bachelor's degree at the University of Texas at Arlington. Jim loved classic cars, oldies music, traveling and enjoying fine wine. Jim was a hard-working, strong, yet gentle man who devoted himself to his family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lillian Hammons. A very special thank-you to Teresa Magyar and Vitas Hospice for providing tender, loving care to a man who was so deserving. Survivors: His loving wife of nine years Terri; children, Jeff Hammons, Angela Carter, Heather Magyar and husband, Ference; stepdaughter, Laura Hanner; brother, Robert Hammons and wife, Marilyn; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grand daughter and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
