George J. "Jim" Collyar of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at his residence in Ponca City at the age of 87 years.

George J. "Jim" Collyar was born on April 2, 1926, in Renfrow, Oklahoma. He was the son of Claude and Mary M. (Falkenburg) Collyar.

He attended rural schools and Blackwell High School. Following his education he entered the United States Navy serving during World War II. After an honorable discharge he returned to Blackwell and began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company.

On January 2, 1953, he married Maudine Clemens in Tonkawa and they made their home in Blackwell.

In 1973 he was transferred by the Amax Corporation to Saguet, Illinois, and they made their home in Collinsville, Illinois, until their return to Ponca City in 1989.

He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, A.A.R.P., and the First United Methodist Church where he was an active member of the youth department. He also was active in the Boy Scouts of America.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Maudine Collyar, of the home; two sons, James Scott Collyar and Stan W. Collyar and wife Lisa; three grandsons, James P. Collyar, Zackery S. Collyar and Avin James Collyar; one brother, John Collyar; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; a sister; and a grandchild.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 pm., Monday, March 24th at the Blackwell Cemetery with Rev. Tom Howard of Hospice of North Central Oklahoma officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his honor with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
