Alvin H. Ackermann, 83, 716 Oak St., died at 9:22 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 4, 2000) at his home.
Mr. Ackermann was employed by E-Systems, Memcor Division, for 19 years. He was a photographer and musician by trade. He was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church and the Sparks group. He was a past member of the Huntington Jaycees, the Huntington Lions Club and the Photo-Finishers of America and past president of the local AARP. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1934 and also graduated from the Winona Lake School of Professional Photography.
He was born April 20, 1916, in Huntington to Adolph F. Ackermann and Anna W. Baade Ackermann. He married Helen McElhaney Oct. 5, 1939, in Huntington. His wife survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Damon (Joyce) Gravley, Mrs. Larry (Karen) Smith and Mrs. Roy (Jerri) Hughes, all of Huntington, Mrs. Steve (Rita) Weber, Machesney Park, Ill., and Mrs. James (Nancy) England, Celina, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
A son, Alan Richard Ackermann, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Rev. Allen Goebbert officiating. Pallbearers were Drew Wohlford, Martin Wohlford, Jon Weber, Nick Turner, Christopher Turner and Duston Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Christina Enger, Camy Smith, Jessica Hughes, Sarah Hughes and Amanda McClurg.
Burial was at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Huntington Home Health Care & Hospice or to the St. Peter Lutheran Church 150 Year Anniversary.
