James Leffler Hope, 81, of St. Mary's died Dec. 25, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The Wayne County native had lived in St. Mary's most of his life and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of Gilman Paper Company and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a Bronze Star recipient. He was predeceased by his wife, Effie J. Curry Hope. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jimmy Taylor of St. Mary?s; two brothers, Calvin Hope of Brunswick and Kinnon Hope of Morristown, Va.; a sister, Susie Conaway of Brunswick; two grandchildren, Wayne and Nikki Taylor and Steve and Stephanie Taylor, all of Mt. Pleasant; five great-grandchildren, Ryan Carver, Alexis Taylor, Michael Taylor, Katelyn Taylor and Ashlyn Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Dec. 29 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Anderson officiating. Interment was in Union Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant with military honors. Active pallbearers were John Evors, Earl Hulett, Billy Hope, Gene Hope, Shane Hope and James Hope. Honorary pallbearers were Glynn Taylor, Ronnie Dees, Gary Sharpe, Reggie Johnson, Jesse Williams and Brian Rowell. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.
