Bert Grimes, 79, of Petersburg passed away on March 20, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 24, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg, Texas with Ronnie Hedges officiating and Rusty McReynolds assisting. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held from 2-4 P.M. Sunday afternoon at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview.

Bert was born on November 7, 1934 in Floydada, Texas to W.E. and Lilly Grimes. He grew up in Floydada and was an All-State Football player and an All-State Cast member in the One Act Play. Bert then attended Texas Tech University and received his Bachelors of Education. He also obtained his Master's of Education. On August 19, 1956, Bert married Rose Green in Borger. They moved to Crosbyton where he taught and coached. In 1963 they moved to Amherst and he served as the Head football coach. In 1969, Bert started the Football program at Shallowater and served as a coach for 6 years. He then coached for New Home and served as the Principal for 2 years. He then served as the Superintendent for Three Way ISD for six years. In 1983 they moved to Petersburg where he served as the Supeintendent for Petersburg ISD retiring in 1995. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Petersburg, Lions Club, and many other professional organizations. He was inducted into the Floydada Hall of Fame, and was a past recipient of the Region 17 Superintendent of the Year and was awarded Coach of the Year on several occasions. Bert was a great Husband, Dad, Pops, Educator, Coach, and Administrator and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Edith Aylesworth.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Grimes of Petersburg; two daughters, Debbie Boyer and husband Rodney of Canyon, Amy Lopez of Austin; five grandchildren, Dr. Micha Boyer and wife Jessica, Ann Marie Adrian, Becca Boyer Brooke and husband Joshua, Black Boyer, Matthew Adrian; two great grandchildren, Rylynn Brooke and Liam Brooke.
