The youngest child of Clyde Oscar Ishmael and Grace Louise Geuder, Clyde D. was born on the family farm located near Chandlerville, Cass County, Illinois.

At the age of 18, he moved to Alton, Madison County, Illinois and lived with his sister, Lenna Cook, and her husband, Kenneth. Clyde worked for Western Cartridge Company.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps and was inducted into the service on 01 March 1943. He attended several different schools before being assigned to the 458th Squadron of the 300th bomb group in Victoria, Kansas.

While still in the service, Clyde met Juanita Lurene Stevens. They were married on 02 Dec 1944 in Lyons, Rice County, Kansas.

Not long after their marriage, Clyde's unit was sent to Guam. He was stationed there until the end of World War II. The Ishmaels moved to Alton, Illinois after Clyde received his discharge in February of 1946.

Clyde and Juanita were the parents of 1 daughter. He worked as a carpenter for Olin Corporation for 16 years.

On 01 Mar 1964, Clyde founded C. D. Ishmael Construction Company. Juanita worked as a cashier at the Sears store in Alton until she retired in 1983.

Clyde built many custom homes in the Madison County area over the years. He later recalled the highlight of his career as being the 1992 construction of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey, Illinois. He and Juanita then became members of the church he had built.

Clyde took pride in the fact that he became lifelong friends with many of his customers. He and Juanita enjoyed going to Branson, Missouri for vacations with friends, and taking trips to visit relatives.

The Ishmaels celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in late 1994. She died less than 3 years later.

Children from first marriage: 1 daughter.

Clyde married Mrs. Shirley Viola (nee Meseke) Adler on 04 Sep 1999 at Resurrection Lutheran Church the day before his 76th birthday. In need of a home to share with her, he told his new wife that he "knew a good contractor" who was sure to build them a fine house.

Clyde remained active with his business well into his late 80's. In 2012, he turned the reins over to his son-in-law and daughter and officially retired.

After enjoying a lifetime of exceptionally good health, Clyde began to suffer a series of medical problems. His condition worsened during the last few months of his life, but he was able to remain at home for most of that time due to the care and efforts provided by his wife, Shirley.

Children from second marriage: None.

Clyde was a patient for a very short time at Blu Fountain Nursing Home in Godfrey. He passed away there of cancer at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 16 days.

He was survived by his wife of nearly 15 years, Shirley Ishmael; 1 daughter and son-in-law; 2 granddaughters and their husbands; 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, Clyde was also preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Lenna Cook; and 1 brother, Wilbert Ishmael.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on 25 Mar 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey. Military rites were performed by Alton VFW Post #1308.
