Celebrating the Life, Witness & Resurrection of Alice (Flatland) Steiger, she passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the age of 89.
She was born on November 20, 1924 in Chicago, IL to Gustav & Sigrid (Jensen) Flatland. She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Austin High School in Chicago.
She met Carl William Steiger of San Antonio, TX at Brooks Field San Antonio where they both worked during WWII. They were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in San Antonio on August 19, 1944. Most of her married life she helped her husband and later her son in the insurance business.
She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and Brunhilde Hermann Sons Lodge.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of almost 65 years, her sister Arline Clemons and brother-in-law Robert.
Alice is survived by two sons Carl Lawrence Steiger and wife Carol of Austin, and Stanley Luther Steiger and wife Karen of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Carl Steiger and wife Stacey, Mark Steiger, all of Austin, Andrew Steiger and wife Miriah of Chicago, and Elizabeth Steiger of San Antonio; and four great-grandchildren Avery and Evan Steiger of Austin, Riley Pope of San Antonio, and Connor Steiger of Chicago. She is also survived by one niece, Gail Duke and husband Jim of Napels, Fl and a nephew John Clemons and wife Susan of Murphysboro, IL.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Oak Hills Mortuary. A 10:00 a.m. Chapel Service will be celebrated on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Oak Hills Mortuary. Interment to follow in San Jose Burial Park.
