From "Grayson County Texas, Ancestors and Descendants", 1980, Taylor Publishing:

Martha Matilda Orr. born in South Carolina. on May 16. 1834, was the daughter of

Thomas Orr and Sara Wilson Orr. Her father was from Dublin, Ire land, and she was one of

twelve children. Matilda married Frank McKinney, and their children were Roseila

(Ella) McKinney. born July 8, 1858, and Julia Alice (Alice) McKinney. born June 6, 1862.

During the Civil War, Frank was a soldier for the Confederacy, as were James Orr. Thomas

Caswell Orr. maybe Will Orr and others. When he became ill, he was sent home to recuperate.

and even with all the care that he was given, he died.

Soon after the war's end. they came from Anderson County. South Carolina, arriving in

1869. Matilda lived in a little salt-box house near the Stark and Helvey places. In 1870 she

married James L. Dickson of South Carolina. Grandpa Dickson claimed Christmas as his

day for celebration; December 25 was really his birthdate. Their children were J.E. (Jay)

Dickson , Zula Dickson Hill, wife of Bascom Hill, and J.A. (Joe) Dickson. Until the older

girls were married. they lived near Howe. Ella married John D. Stark and Alice married Joel

R. Helvey. The Dicksons moved to Luella. Texas, and later sold their land to someone

who founded the town. They attended the Baptist churches near where they lived: first at

White Mound, Texas. at Union Point and Liberty, north of Howe. In 1911, Matilda became

ill and the family returned to Howe. She died at Ella Stark's home on January 10, 1912. On

a cold, cold snowy day, she was buried at Luella as are many members of the Orr family.

Jim Dickson remarried and lived near the Oklahoma-Kansas border.
