Mr. Frederick J. Wasem
March 14, 1923 - March 20, 2014
Charlotte Hall, Maryland
One of the first Master Chiefs in the U.S. Navy and long time resident of Annapolis, Frederick James Wasem, 91, passed away at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home on Thursday March 20, 2014. In addition to his 21 year naval career, he retired after 20 years as a lab manager in the physics department at the Naval Academy in 1981.
Fred was an avid fisherman and loved being on the bay, sailing on the skipjack "Mustang" or fishing on his own bay-built boat, the "Alibi". He also loved singing as a member of the "Sons of the Severn" barbershop chorus for many years, was a committed USNA football fan and was a life member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 24.
He was married for 43 years to Lillie S. Wasem, who predeceased him in 1994. He is survived by his children, Tyrone and wife, Hope Stinson of Arnold, Maryland, Linda and husband Harry Wallace of Leonardtown, Maryland and Mike Wasem of Lusby, Maryland, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Fred will be remembered for his humor and the many jokes that have become legend in family lore. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 26 from noon until 1:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis, followed by a short service at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery chapel at 1:45. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to Wounded Warriors be made in memory of Frederick Wasem.
