Lou Kitchens, 74, of Whitehouse passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Whitehouse.
Mrs. Kitchens, a retired clerk for the city of Tyler, was born on May 19, 1939, in Quitman. She grew up and attended school in Quitman and moved to Tyler in 1962. She graduated from Federal Business School and began working for the city of Tyler in 1969. She retired in 1999. She volunteered with her church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and, most recently, her great-grandson.
She is survived by her daughter, LaWanda Ellison, of Whitehouse; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Gil Gilcrease, of Quitman; grandsons, Jeremy and his wife Whitney Stafford, of Seattle, Wash., Bobby Ortiz, of Whitehouse; great-grandson, Liam Stafford, of Seattle, Wash.; and niece, Debra and her husband Brian Teter, of Quitman.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Lloyd James Funeral Home, 1011 E. First St., Tyler. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, N.Y., 10001. Lloyd James Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
