Actress and Dancer. With her husband Charles Johnson, they both worked in vaudeville and were the originators of the cakewalk which was a popular dance at that time.Actress, Dancer. She is best remembered as a member of the 1890s vaudeville dancing team, Johnson & Dean, along with her partner and husband Charles Johnson. They became famous as the originators of the cakewalk which they introduced and performed at Madison Square Gardens in 1895. They toured with each other for 17 years and traveled through Europe and other countries. Besides appearing in vaudeville, she also appeared in a few films. She made her film debut as 'Helen Abrahams' in director Hal Reid's silent film drama, "Time Lock No. 776" (1915), which was made through the Photo Drama Production Company. Her other film credits include, "Silver Threads Among The Gold" (1915), "Eyes Right!" (1926), "Napoleon Jr." (1926), "Bouncing Babies" (1929), "Dancing Sweeties" (1930), and "Georgia Rose" (1930). Later in her career, she returned to vaudeville and toured again with her husband as Johnson & Dean but she took a bad fall and seriously injured her leg. She retired shortly thereafter. She passed away after a short illness at the age of 77. At the time of her death, she and her husband had been married for 56 years. Her husband Charles passed away in 1956.
