James was the son of Richard and Nancy (Baker) Gunsallus. He married Nancy Jane Dickey on 25 Jun 1949 in Howard Township, Centre, PA. James and Nacy had 12 children: Jennie, Richard, William, Nancy, Frank, Abraham, George, Harry, Annie, Robert, Mary and Charles.
James B. Gunsallus, one of the oldest and best known men of Boggs township died (October 19, 1906) at the home of Mrs. Mary McGinley just north of Milesburg. His death was the result of diseases incident to old age as he had been confined to his bed ever since last February. He was 69 years of age. Always a hard working, honest and upright man, he had the esteem and confidence of all who knew him. His wife died a number of years ago, but surviving him are the following children: Mrs. Thomas Carson, of Tyrone; Richard, of Bellefonte; Harry, of Warriors Mark; Frank and Abram, of Laurelton; Robert, of Johnstown; Mrs. Harry McGinley and Charles, of Bellefonte and William, of Canton, OH.
