Pearl Mary Dotson
October 16, 1922 - March 22, 2014

Pearl was born to Robert and Julia Higgins in Hensel, North Dakota. She had two older brothers Robert (Bob) and Clarence (Hap) all now deceased. The family owned a farm in North Dakota where she lived until the age of 12. Due to the depression the farm was lost, they loaded all of their possessions on a truck and headed west. The family eventually landed in Eugene during the mid 1930's and that became home.

Mom's brother Hap served in the Army's 41st division in New Guinea during World War II. One of Hap's service buddies was Dad. Hap showed dad a picture of his beautiful younger sister - Dad responded, "When this war ends, I am going to marry her." And that's what he did.

Mom and Dad were married 65+ years until his death in 2011. They have 3 children Fred (Eagle Point), Rob (Eugene), and Julie (Bend). They have 7 grandchildren and Mom had a special relationship with every one of them. She loved the grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren with all her heart and was fiercely loyal to them.

Mom always succeeded when she set her mind to something. She graduated high school at the age of 16 with top student honors. Mom went to work for Lane County and eventually became the first female appraiser 3 in county history. Mom loved gardens and flowers especially rhododendrons. She raised her own rhododendrons from seed and won first prize at the Florence rhododendron festival one year.

We were an extremely close and happy family and spent a lot of time playing and enjoying each other. We camped for many years and Mom always made it fun even though she wasn't crazy about camping herself.

Dad doted on Mom and did whatever he could to give her what she wanted. Mom always wanted a place at the coast - she wanted to have an organ and she wanted to have a rock polisher. I am proud to say she got them all.

In their later years Mom and Dad traveled with Julie to Europe, and through the Panama Canal on a cruise. They also took several other cruises and went to Hawaii. Also there were numerous trips to the casino which was always one of Mom's favorites.

Like many people who live long lives, Mom and Dad had some health issues later on. Julie opened her home and made it theirs until they passed. Julie put forth the effort and made them a happy and secure home. The entire family will never be able to thank Julie enough.

Mom and Dad were devout Catholics. They were happy and optimistic as well as loving and loyal. Now together forever, they will reap their reward for living such good lives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday March 29th at 11:00 am at Saint Jude Catholic Church, 4330 Willamette St.
