Died at his home near Dixon, on Wednesday, Nov 30th. Mr. S. R. Benninghoff, only one week after the death of his wife. the funeral was held Friday, and the remains of one of the early settlers of this region and one of the grand old men of the county, were followed to their last resting place by a very large number of sorrowing friends. For several months the deceased had been in constant attendance upon his aged wife, who bowed down by the weight of years, had been brought to her bed by the waiting hand of death, and through the weary weeks he faithfully ministered to her wants, and when she was called he simply collapsed, and quickly followed her who had been his faithful and loving companion for more than forty years. Syrus Ruben Benninghoff was born in Ohio on July 3rd, 1835, which would make his age 75 years, 4 months and 26 days. He came to this country in 1864, settling on the ranch on which he died. One child, Mrs. Lizzie Van Buren survives the departing couple.
