WAYNESBORO - Norma Christensen Coiner, 92, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Summit Square, Waynesboro.

She was born March 6, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa, daughter of William Otto and Elsie Margaret Sonneborn Christensen.

Norma attended Valparaiso University, graduating from the University of Minnesota, and later received her Masters Degree from James Madison University. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, including teaching Sunday School and helping with Bible School. She retired as a librarian for the Waynesboro Schools, and helped found the library at Summit Square. Also active in the community, she was a Board Member for the local Cancer Society, volunteered for the Waynesboro Mental Health Association, and did lots of volunteer tutoring in the Waynesboro Public Schools.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar R. Coiner in July 2004; a son, John Coiner; sisters, Marjory Ann Christensen and Dorothy Andros; and brother, Richard John Christensen.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn C. and Ronald Denney of Staunton; two grandchildren, Mary Christensen Denney and William Cyrus Denney and his wife, Anna Bolles Denney; brother-in-law, Lewis M. Coiner and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2564 Rockfish Rd., by Pastor Tim Bohlmann. Interment will in the church cemetery at 3:30 p.m.

A reception will follow at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church Social Ministry Fund, 100 Maple Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
