Mrs. Mary Ellen (Cole) McClellan, age 95, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on October 8, 1918, on Drakes Ridge in Bennington, Indiana, the loving daughter of the late, George T. Cole & Lona (Brindley) Pullium.

She was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana where she attended the one room school house in Bennington, Indiana.

She was united in marriage on November 23, 1933, in Carrollton, Kentucky, to the late, George Elmer White. George & Mary Ellen shared nearly 6 years of marriage together until he passed away on April 13, 1939.

Mary Ellen was later united in marriage in 1940 in Switzerland County, Indiana, to the late, Leslie L. McKenzie. She & Leslie shared 24 years of marriage together until his death on March 27, 1964.

Mary Ellen was a former Stitcher for the US Shoe Factory, retiring in 1983, after 30 years of service. She & Leslie co-owned & co-operated Sinclair Filling Station in Vevay, Indiana, for several years. Mary Ellen was employed at the Vevay Swiss Inn in Vevay, Indiana, for several years.

She was a member of the Vevay VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #5396, the Vevay American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #185 & the New Life Fellowship Church in Vevay, Indiana. Mary Ellen was a former Treasurer for the Vevay Senior Citizens Center in Vevay, Indiana, for several years where she was active in helping to get funds to build the Jack Sullivan Senior Citizen Center in Vevay, Indiana. Mary Ellen enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren & will be dearly missed. Mary Ellen was a devoted mother, grandmother & great-grandmother. Mary Ellen died at 6:20 pm, Thursday, February 27, 2014, at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Mary Ellen will be missed by her sons: Donald McKenzie & his wife: Mardi of Tuttle, OK, Ernest R. McKenzie of Vevay, IN & Robert "Hardly" McKenzie & his wife: Lynda of Vevay, IN; her daughters: Lona Mathews of Seminole, FL, Betty Scott of Vevay, IN & Loretta Hayes & her husband: Paul of Vevay, IN; her 22-grandchildren; her 39-great-grandchildren; her 4-great-great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law: Judy Kay White of Vevay, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents: George T. Cole & Lona (Brindley) Pullium; her 1st-husband: George Elmer White, died April 13, 1939; her 2nd-husband: Leslie L. McKenzie, died March 27, 1964; her sons: David "Buck" White, died November 13, 2003, Richard "Rick" McKenzie, died August 1, 2010, Lewis Edward McKenzie, died October 1, 1989 & Elmer Lloyd "Dumpy" White, died February 23, 2014; her grandsons: Richard L. "Dickie" White & R.J. Mathews; her granddaughter: Megan Shelby Hayes; her great-granddaughter: Loni Amber Lynn Turner, died August 30, 2010.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 2:00 pm, by Rev. Ronald Sandidge, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
