Daughter of Jacob Shapiro and his second wife, Lena Borofsky, both immigrants from the Russian Pale settlement area in Poland.

Jacob and Lena were married in 1900, and most of their children were born in Chelsea, Massachusetts. The family later moved to Saugus, Mass. and that's where Esther grew up, at 165 Main Street.

She lost her father when she was around 14, but had her mother and older brothers and half-brother Samuel for support.

With so many siblings, marriages were a regular event and finally Esther had her turn, marrying Samuel Mazur.

Half-siblings (Jacob Shapiro & Annie Jacobson):

Fannie D. 1896-1915
Samuel M. (Esther G. Trombly) 1898-1987
