Vivian Casteel Webb McConnell, 84, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 27, 2014, following a brief illness as a result of complications from a stroke. A native of McMinn County, and a former resident of Kingston, TN, she resided in Cleveland, TN, since 1968, when she also became a member of North Cleveland Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for many years where she was dearly loved by the little ones and in more recent years was a member of the Sunshine Class. Having worked alongside her husband at McConnell and Gates Exxon for several years until they retired in 1991, she always had a kind word and a listening ear for those she met. She loved nature in all forms whether it was enjoying her flower gardens or watching the birds in her backyard or 'digging in the dirt', as she would say.

She was the daughter of the late Larkin and Rossie Gay Casteel, also proceeded in death by her first husband, Haskell D. Webb; brothers, Robert, J.M., Kenneth, and Leonard Casteel; and sisters, Zella Mae Patton and Ruth Burger.

Survivors include her loving husband of 36 years, Paul E. McConnell; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce 'Joy' and Robert 'Bobby' Rogers of Etowah; son, Robert 'Bob' Webb, of Cleveland; step-daughters, Marsha (Mike) Wallace and Donna Haney of Cleveland, and Libby (Robert) Bookout of Charleston; step-son, Paul D. (Tammy) McConnell of Cleveland. Grandchildren Amy (Eric) Houle of Boca Raton, FL; David (Heather) Gates of Tunnel Hill, GA; Jennifer Webb and Michael (Jessica) Webb of Cleveland. Step-grandchildren Trisha (Monty) Frazier, Abby Wallace, Travis (Brooke) Haney, Jonathan (Alison) Douglas, Josh (Whitney) McConnell, Kiersten McConnell and Whitney McConnell. Great grandchildren Emily, Ansley, and Dawson Gates, Carson and Owen Houle, Hailey and Emily Webb, Claire Swallows, Cade and Atalee Douglas, Ryleigh McConnell, and Lennox McConnell. Brother Sherman (Catherine) Casteel of Madisonville; Sisters Marie (Holloway) Harris and Sara 'Tinker' Martin of Englewood; and Alice (Lewis) Partain of Athens and sister-in-law Alma Casteel Webb. Also included are too many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews to even count.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at North Cleveland Baptist Church with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2014 in McMinn Memory Gardens with David Gates, Mike Webb, Jonathan Douglas, Travis Haney, Steve Casteel, Jason Swallows and Paul Smith serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the service.

Grissom Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements, Mark S. Grissom Funeral Director.
