James F. Ackerman, 86, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at the Mecklenburg Health Care Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Jim was born Dec. 3, 1925, in Elyria, Ohio. He attended Avon High School and graduated in 1943. A veteran with the U.S. Navy Air Corps (1943-1947), Jim was employed as a manager of manufacturing engineering with Fruehauf Trailer Corp for 45 years both in Avon, Ohio and Charlotte, N.C. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Avon where he served at Mass for 18 years.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sally R. Ackerman (nee Rosati); children, Donna (Roy) Jones of Elkton, Fla., Linda (Michael) Zug of Harrisburg Pa., Joan E. Ackerman of Monterey, Calif., Anita Lake of St. Augustine, Fla., Pat (Mark) Miller of Huron, Ohio and Ann Martin of Toledo, Ohio; sister, Frances J. Fishback of Rocky River, Ohio; brothers, Ted Ackerman and Tom Ackerman, both of North Ridgeville, Ohio; grandchildren, Beth Jones, Sean Jones, Luke Jones, Rachel Miller, Tony Miller, Haven Lake, Spencer Lake, Mark Martin, Christopher Martin and Abigail Zug; step grandsons, Mark Grondin (Angela) and Dino (Maribel) Grondin; four great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren and three step great-great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. and Regina (nee Schmitz) Ackerman; brother, Gerald Paul "Shorty" Ackerman; son-in-law, Gary Lake; stepson, Jack D. Grondin; and grandson, Cameron Lake.
