Francis L. "Mike" Kaster, 89, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on Sept. 21, 1916, in Lamont Township, LaFayette County, the son of William and Viola (Gille) Kaster. Mike and Elsie Reussor were married on Sept. 26, 1942, in Monroe. He entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 2, 1942, and was discharged on Nov. 11, 1945. Mike fought in the battle of the Rhineland, receiving 1 Service Stripe, 3 Service Bars, the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star, and the Victory Medal. He and his wife farmed in Argyle and then north of Juda for over 20 years, moving to Monroe in 1969. Mike then worked for Bruni-Miller Company for many years. He was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #1471, life member of Cecil Jones V.F.W. Post #2312, Zilmer Riley American Legion Post #84, and Cooties Puptent #14. Mike was very active with the V.F.W. honor guard and firing squad, coordinating military rites for veterans. But his greatest love was spending time and being with his family. Surviving are his daughters, Mary Sheryl Tschudy of Monroe and Patricia Yeagle of Winslow, IL; sons, Michael (Jan) Kaster of Burlington and John (Mary) Kaster of Whitewater; 5 grandchildren: Chris Yeagle, Robert F. (Shauna) Yeagle, Cole Youngs, Matthew Kaster and Michelle Kaster; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Differt of Wauwatosa and Helene Wickersham of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Ben (Lois) Kaster of Monroe; also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; a sister, Janann Kaster; brothers: Martin, Leo and Edward Kaster; brother-in-law, Ozora Wickersham; and son-in-law, Arthur Fritz Tschudy.
