Gilbert P. LeClair, 85, of 1807 Saint George Lane, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at his home. He was born in Jacksonport, WI, on March 19, 1920, the son of Englebert and Sophie (Propsom) LeClair. In 1946 he married LaVerne Maggle, and they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in March of 2006. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Gilbert grew up working in the commercial fishing business with his father and brothers on the Great Lakes. He also worked at the Sturgeon Bay Dry Dock Co. and Peterson Ship Building, where he delivered ships to New Orleans and Boston. In the early 1950's Gilbert and his family moved to Beloit where he worked as a machinist at Fairbanks-Morse Co. In the late 1950's they built a home in Janesville where Gilbert worked and retired from General Motors Corp in 1981. Gilbert lived life to the fullest with a sharp sense of humor in his everyday living. He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball, where he managed and played with the Jacksonport team and also had a tryout with the Chicago White Sox. He enjoyed playing golf and watching the Packers and Brewers. He also worked with Little League baseball teams. After retirement Gil and LaVerne spent 13 winters in Florida and Arizona and took many tours throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Hawaii, enjoying retired life. Gilbert's greatest love was his family, especially seeing his grandchildren grow up. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, YMCA, and UAW. Survivors include his wife, LaVerne; 2 children, Mark (Elli) LeClair of Woodbury, MN, and Barbara Rhea of Janesville; 4 grandchildren: Matthew and Bethany LeClair of Woodbury, MN, Megan and Leah of Janesville; 4 brothers: John of Michigan, Moe (Melda) and Richard (Helen) of Jacksonport, WI, and George (Barbara) of Sturgeon Bay, WI; and 2 sisters, Mary (Don) Fagerstrom of Chicopee, MA, and Katherine Onan of Jacksonport. Preceding Gilbert in death were his parents; and 2 brothers, Louis and Robert.
