William Henry "Bill" Bodenhamer, age 100, of Brady, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in Brady.

He was born on April 27, 1911, in Brady to Thomas Lee Bodenhamer and Annie May (Smith) Bodenhamer.

He was a graduate of Brady High School.

He married Audre Lee "Snookie" Hallmark on February 12, 1937.

He moved to San Antonio and worked for the Fort Sam Houston General Depot and Kelly Field for many years.

He married Alma Louise (Hills) White on February 2, 1969 in San Antonio.

Upon retirement, he moved back to Brady in 1972, where he played golf every day for 10 years. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and working in his yard.

In May of 1992, at the age of 81, he began writing his memoirs at the request of his daughter. By October his memoirs were completed and he had an opportunity to fill in for a columnist for "The Brady Standard" for three months. His memories of "olden times" was well received and he was given a column of his own. On December 18, 1992 his first column under the title of "Mostly Memories" was published. In December of 1992 he also compiled a book of stories entitled "Memories, Moments Shared and Miscellaneous Thoughts and Writings". In 2005, his grandson, Jon Sanders edited and published some of his stories and remembrances entitled "If I Could Have My Druthers". After the death of his wife in 2007, he became disinterested in writing and using the computer.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. No services are scheduled at this time. Interment will be at Live Oak Cemetery at a later date.

Bill is survived by his son Jeffrey E. "Jeb" Bodenhamer of Virginia Beach, VA, daughter Barbara Machado of San Antonio, TX, step-daughter Glee Griffin and husband James of Brady, TX, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and 2 grandsons.
