Lucas Alberto Diaz-Arias, 23, of Columbia passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at home. A visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Woodcrest Chapel. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Woodcrest Chapel. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery. Lucas was born on July 2, 1990, in Columbia to Alberto A. and Michele A. Diaz-Arias. He was a student in the Rock Bridge district until moving to Colorado to finish high school at Vantage Point High School. After graduating high school he attended Front Range College in Westminster, Colo. While there, he was a successful student and a student ambassador and a long-distance swimmer. He loved football, basketball and "futbol" and had collected several autographed footballs. He loved animals and was always ready to take in a stray. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies. Lucas was a caring brother and loving son. Lucas is survived by his parents, Alberto and Michele Diaz-Arias; brothers, HM3 Daniel A. Diaz-Arias, U.S. Navy, and wife Tara of Jacksonville, N.C., and Alec J. Diaz-Arias of Chicago; niece, Isabella L. Diaz-Arias; paternal grandfathers, Alberto R. Diaz and Frank W. Huelskoetter; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Rosa A. Arias, and maternal grandmother, M. Marilyn Huelskoetter.
