Mr. Maryland "Merl" Bates died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at his home in Fairfield, Ohio. He was 76.
Born June 6, 1937 in Whitesburg, Kentucky, he is the son of the late Hillard and Carrie Caudill Bates. He was an auto body repairman.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Eads Bates, who died April 13, 2004; daughter, Norma Renee Bates; two brothers, Jerry and Wilmer Mitchum; and two sister, Gloria Dean Holden and Gardenia Downs.
Survivors include two sons, Buddy and Mike Bates both of Fairfield, Ohio; two daughters, Kaylin Marie Bates of Fairfield, Ohio and Virginia Gail Dilley of Tampa Bay, Florida; four grandchildren; three brothers, Maynard Bates of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jimmy Bates of Dunnville, KY and Richard Mitchum of Junction City, KY; and two sisters, Evon Barber of Junction City, KY and Evelyn Gooch of Stanford, KY.
Funeral services are 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 4, 2014 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Cross officiating. Burial is in Whited Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
