Lloyd Mayes was born in Rogers City, Michigan on May 20, 1929 to the late Frank Mayes and Mary Mayes. On September 18, 1965 he married the former Betty Jane "Fritz" Hoffman at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Rogers City. Betty preceded him in death on June 17, 2002.
He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and sailed the Great Lakes for 40 plus years. He was employed by U.S.S. Steel as a Chief Engineer. Following his retirements, Lloyd worked on the ferry to Bob-Lo Island for several summers. Sailing was his life.
He was survived by his three children, 2 sons, Brent (Amy) Mayes of Maine, Brian Mayes of Alpena; a daughter, Melissa Brooks of Alpena; seven grandchildren, Abbey, Rachael, Thomas, Samantha, Brent Joe, Braxton, Heather; one brother, Frank Mayes of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Mayes.
