At the time of their marriage, Rusty was in the US Navy. They initially set up their home on Rocky Step Road in Scott Depot, WV. Nancy worked at the Gateway Animal Hospital in St. Albans, WV.
While on her way to work two weeks and six days after her marriage, she was killed in a car accident while traveling north on Route 35 near Scary, WV. She was survived by her husband, Rusty; parents: Raymond W. "Bud" and Marjorie N. Sparks; siblings: Kathy Susan and Paul Joe Sparks, all of Scott Depot, WV; paternal grandmother: Lola Sparks of St. Albans, WV; and maternal grandmother: Minnie Parsons of Gauley Bridge, WV; parents-in-law: Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Beaver of Hurricane, WV; and sisters-in- law: Debbie, Connie, & Ann Beaver, all of Hurricane, WV.
Chapman Funeral Home in Teays Valley was in charge of all service arrangements. Her funeral was presided over by the Rev. Cremeans to an over-flowing crowd at the Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church on July 6, 1970. Burial immediately followed at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens in Cross Lanes, WV.
Due to her sudden death so soon after her brief marriage, her official wedding photos were delivered some weeks later and remain a lasting family treasure.
Her parents placed a notice in local newspapers to thank those who had presented or sent wedding gifts, but were never acknowledged officially due to the sudden tragedy of her death.
